EROTICA x FILTH

Frank Noir is an erotica author living and working in Berlin, Germany. He writes stories with a darker edge, exploring the submission to sexual desires. His work has been featured on the All The Filthy Details podcast with a high approval rating. Noir’s stories are hard, yet sensual. The themes of submission and kink are explored in depth, as the protagonist is challenged and made to endure the pleasures of their own desires.

It goes without saying that you’re an incredibly talented writer and storyteller, but what is it about your style that you think resonates with your audience?

First of all, thanks for the kind words.

It’s hard to say. My goal is to describe erotic fantasies – even of the somewhat bizarre kind – as vividly as possible. And I seem to have found an audience that appreciates that. Recently, a reader remarked that she was surprised how arousing she found the dialogue in my stories. I was happy to hear that – because that’s a particular focus of mine.

What are you writing now? And how does it differ from what you’ve previously written?
I started out writing short stories, but have mainly been focusing on novels for the last couple of years. However, I’ve recently decided to concentrate the short story format. It works really well for erotica and gives me the opportunity to experiment with different styles and viewpoints from story to story.

Who would you say is the marque character from books? (your favorite) Are you tempted to bring them back?

I basically love all my heroines.

But in my short story “Outdoor Service” I introduced a strange character: A pale, fat, mute man with a permanent erection, an insatiable libido, and a fondness for walking around in the nude. I’ve seriously considered writing an entire series of stories, placing him in all sorts of different scenarios.

You’ve created a fantastic Erotic podcast. What’s the status of that, do you plan to make more episodes this year?

Again, thank you.

I’ve really enjoyed doing my erotica podcast – not least the musical soundtrack which I also produce myself.

Unfortunately, I was quite ill for most of 2022. During this illness I could still write, but it affected my ability to work on the podcast. Now that I’ve recovered, I really want to get back in the groove and do at least one more episode shortly. I usually posts excerpts from my books, and I haven’t done a Dirty Cops episode yet.

You’ve been known to use Non-con narratives in your work, do you ever worry that people may not be able to separate the fiction you write from your own sexual values?

I see how the depiction of non-consensual sex can be controversial. But here is my take on the issue:

My stories are fiction and intended solely to be read as erotic fantasies. I expect any reader who indulges in a Frank Noir story to know the difference between fantasy and reality.

The inspiration for my stories is simply my own personal kinks, and power play happens to be among them. Which in fictionalized form comes out as non-con (or dub-con).

I’ve learned over time that this is a fetish I share with many readers of all genders. And I feel vindicated by the fact that many female readers have told me that my non-con scenarios are perfectly aligned with their own sexual fantasies.

How important are your own sexual experiences to your work?

Well, of course my own sex life has helped me realize what my preferences are – and that in turn has inspired my stories.

But what works on the page differs from what you experience in real life. If I wrote my best sexual encounters down, I would not be able to convey the chemistry and the sensations that made them great. Erotic writing needs what I like to call a “scenario” and a different kind of sexual tension.

However, my short story “My Naked Neighbour” is actually a “what if” plot based on a woman across the street from me walking around in the nude.

Who are the Erotica authors and content creators you appreciate?

Funny, that. I rarely read erotica at all – except for some classics like the Marquis de Sade and Story of O. In fact, I consider the latter a high watermark in the genre – its style perfectly crafted to convey the content.

For writing, I’m actually more likely to be inspired by works of literary fiction. Good writing is good writing, no matter the subject.

However, I find a lot of inspiration in high-end porn. Among others, I admire the work of studios like the British Harmony Films, the French Dorcel, and Kayden Kross’ work for Deeper. Their videos convey the same kind of heat and eroticism that I endeavour to put into words in my stories.
