EROTICA x FILTH

Tiny Sparks has made a name for herself as one of the most prominent authors in the BDSM erotica genre. Her work is known for its imaginative and daring explorations of desire and power, making her books a must-read for fans of this genre. With a wealth of experience and creative talent, we’re excited to get to know the mind behind the BDSM erotica masterpiece that is Tiny Sparks.

How did you get into writing BDSM Erotica?

I couldn’t find any books to satisfy my fantasies anymore and decided to give it a go. In the beginning I was told I was good at creating steamy scenes, which made me blush. But I was proud of that assessment and my try-out short story was well received and the series of ‘His Rules’ became a quick success.

How do you develop your characters and their relationships in your novels?

Quite a few characters are based on myself and my significant other, lol. Some are pure fantasy, aka the Cinderella retelling. But the side characters are often based on a movie I watched, friends I chat with, or family.

What kind of research do you do to make your stories and characters feel authentic?

As I said before, most are based on myself and/or people I interact with. Sometimes a certain character will resemble someone I’ve seen on TV or read about.

For new readers of your work were would you like them to start? What title should they pick up?

My catalogue is quite varied and not everything will be for everyone. Depending on what they’re looking for, they can choose stories with loads of BDSM such as His Rules and the BDSM Training series. If they want more story and romance with their BDSM scenes I’d recommend Tina’s Story, which is loosely based on my experience. If they prefer more fantasy they can go towards the werewolf or vampire based stories. If there’s an interest in hardcore BDSM then I’d recommend Cinderella’s Pain & Pleasure.

I do have something for the more romance readers. There are steamy scenes still but no BDSM. Cookies & Ghosts and one I’m going to start writing in a couple of months.

How do you balance writing steamy scenes with developing a compelling plot and characters?

It all depends on the story. Sometimes I’m really into getting to the sex quickly and going from there. Other times I like to go slow and have more of a build-up. The difference lies between writing pure erotica, erotic romance or steamy romance and the length of the story.

How do you handle criticism or negative feedback from readers or reviewers?

If it’s constructive, I’ll probably use it in future writing projects. If it’s only to put me down, I ignore it. I try only to check the positive reviews to keep my own moral up. I’m bipolar and it doesn’t take much to push me over the edge, unfortunately.

Which Erotica creatives are you fond of or have working relationships with?

I would love to collaborate with other’s at some point, and I am sometimes active within the erotica writing community but I don’t have an actual working relationship and try to avoid other people’s work, just in case I think it’s bad. I would feel obligated to tell them and don’t want to get in trouble with others’.

Can you talk about any upcoming projects or releases you have in the works?

I’m trying to get back into writing with another erotic retelling, this time Sleeping Beauty gets a make over. And another steamy romance with a pinch of Fantasy. But with the hand-rearing of kittens, I probably won’t be finished until after the summer.
